Experimenting with TinderBox
I am taking a look at how TinderBox works as a Weblog authoring tool today. A very preliminary look at how MNJ looks in TinderBox is here.

Update: Well, I am sure that given enough time I could create a dynamic version of MNJ using TinderBox, but as I suspected, it just doesn't feel like Webloging is the strength of TB. The program is great working with text, it is very customizable and Eastgate offers access to three usable blog templates, but the chore of creating the new site from scratch, setting up a FTP program to keep the site updated on the remote server and all the rest is just too much work for me right now. For the time being at least, I am sticking with Radio. I will keep playing with TB though. Maybe I can get it right in time...

For those who have mentioned MovableType, it looks like a great system, but it too requires jumping through hoops as well as a substantial cost of $150 to set up a business-related site. I will keep looking... 2:06:17 PM comment

Removal of the Comments link
My site and many others that are run using Radio Userland were having performance problems this morning due to apparent problems with the server that hosts the Comments feature. As such, I have removed the comments feature from MNJ for the time being. 8:45:15 AM comment

It is a tough day to be an independent
Following up on yesterday's elections, it is a tough day to be an independent voter when the national leadership has slipped to the right wing side of the political spectrum. It looks like the US is moving into more of a black-and-white reality, with the Shrub's "my way or the highway" attitude winning over moderate and more thinking politics. I am fighting the pessimism this morning, and hoping there will be enough thinkers left in government to keep those who would abuse power, rape the environment, and pad their pockets at the expense of the future at bay... 7:36:02 AM comment

TiBooks hit 1GHz, get a SuperDrive
Apple refreshed its laptop line today as expected, with a new 1GHz processor and SuperDrive in the top-of-the-line TiBook and a $200 price drop on all iBook models that help bring the entry-level 700 MHz iBook to $999.

The refreshed professional PowerBook includes two TiBooks: the $2,999 high-end machine with 1 GHz processor and DVD burning SuperDrive, as well as a 867 MHz TiBook with 1MB of Level 3 cache and a DVD/CDRW Combo drive selling for $2,299.

The iBook line has more modest updates, with each model seeing slightly faster G3 processors and the $200 price drop across the line. The $1,599 high-end iBook has an 800 MHz G3 processor coupled with the 14.1-inch LCD, 256MB Ram, a 30GB hard drive and a Combo DVD-ROM/CDRW drive. At $1,299, the mid-range iBook also runs at 800 MHz with a 12.1-inch LCD, 128MB RAM, 30GB hard drive, and Combo drive. The $999 model boosts a 700 MHz processor, a 12.1-inch LCD, 20GB hard drive and a CD-ROM drive. All three iBook models have 512K of level 2 cache and an ATI Mobility Radeon 7500 graphics card, with 32MB RAM on the mid-range and high-end models. 6:47:44 AM comment
