Another day without my PowerBook
Yesterday I was disappointed not to get my Pismo back from the Apple Repair Center, where the machine was not repaired because they couldn't replicate the problem I was seeing with my LCD screen. But after being told Tuesday morning that my machine would be shipped later in the day Tuesday for Thursday delivery I was counting on being back in business, possibly with a flickering LCD, but back to work with my PowerBook today. Alas, no.
Compared to other disappointing events of this day, for instance Congress giving a nearly limitless green light to Mr. Bush to go to war against whoever bothers him, my being without the PowerBook for another day is a small thing. At least in the case of the Iraq resolution, senator Patty Murray has listened to her constituents and announced her vote against the resolution. Former dot-com millionaire and senator Maria Cantwell is supporting the bill, as is our representative in the House, Norm Dicks...

Cyber-panhandling profiled
Today's Seattle Times site carries a story about the growing trend of 'Cyber-panhandling' on the Internet, and after reading it I am reminded of two things: 1) I hate asking for money to support Mac Net Journal on a regular basis, though that is the only way I currently bring in enough funds to keep the site alive, and 2) I must be a horrible fundraiser if a woman here in Tacoma, Wash. has made more than $1,000 in donations since mid-August to help her get divorced while I have yet to bring in more than $350 in months...
Maybe I need to ask for funds to divorce my Mac?

Now that the newness is wearing off Jaguar, I am curious how many people are finding the Inkwell handwriting recognition software built into the OS a useful addition to their everyday work on their Macs? Are you using Inkwell?

Labels X 1.0 brings labelling to OS X
Unsanity has rolled out another 'haxie' today in the form of Labels X 1.0, a $7 utility that adds the ability to label and change the color of files in the Finder under OS X 10.2. The program also shares that label information with Mac OS 9.x installations.

This offers a little glimpse ahead to the arrival of Nisus Writer for OS X, an update that many fans of the robust alternative word processor application have been waiting for since the arrival of Mac OS X. There is still no official notice of a pending release date...
