Now that is good reader feedback!
Yesterday I received a short note from a Mac Net Journal reader that points out one of the biggest benefits of running a Mac Web site.
"Found your note via Google about the Samsung 1210 printer running OK under Jag. Thanks for posting it...that was one thing I needed to be sure of before upgrading."
Thanks to you, Patrick! MNJ may not be bringing in many donations over the last few weeks (none since the release of Jaguar, actually...) but I love knowing that some of what I write here may help others make the most of working with their Macs under Mac OS X. That's what it is all about! 9:41:09 PM comment

OK...Apple got me for a year
Apple has a new .Mac user for a trial year. We will see how the .Mac services add up at the end of the 12 months. I can tell right now I will not use the virus software, I may use the Backup application, which I just took for an initial spin to back up some book files to my iDisk, and I will continue to use my .Mac email address sparingly.

By the way, Apple can thank Derrick Story at O'Reilly Networks for pushing me over the edge. I was going to pay before my current .Mac services ran out in another 27 days, but after reading Derrick's article about using .Mac earlier tonight, both Natalie and I paid for .Mac services tonight... 9:32:55 PM comment

Wi-Fi in a set-top
Wi-Fi to climb aboard modems. A combination communications-802.11b semiconductor will help build a set-top box that creates its own wireless network instead of just connecting to an outside wireless network. [CNET News.com] 9:18:27 PM comment

Apple services add up to a plus in .Mac
802.11, .Mac, Backup--All Coming Together. Time is more valuable than ever, and my archiving system now includes "Backup," which is included with my .Mac membership. Combined with 802.11b Internet access, I can back up any project immediately from just about anywhere ... even Starbucks. [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service]

It is exactly this kind of unique ability that have Natalie and I both on the verge of paying for an initial year of .Mac service. As a writer with a lot of projects underway at once, the ease of doing a quick online backup could be worth the price. 8:42:09 PM comment

A quick geological note
It is interesting to see the West Coast of the US shaking over the last 24 hours. A short time ago the volcanic ridge about 210 miles off the coast of Oregon near the town of Coos Bay had its fourth large earthquake in the last 24 hours - this time a 5.7 quake. Meanwhile, overnight in California a couple of small quakes shook the outskirts of LA.

Geologists don't like to try and draw correlations between separate quakes likes this, especially since these quakes are on different plates and fault lines, but it is still interesting to track... 10:45:33 AM comment

Screen capture improvements in Jaguar
Apple's Ken Bereskin offers another in the series of highlights of new and improved features in Mac OS X 10.2. Today's topic: Screen capture:
Screen Capture has also been improved big time in Jaguar. When you use the interative version (command-shift-4), the space bar will toggle between the regular marquee selection mode and a new mode to capture just a single window, the Dock or the menu bar. The cursor changes to a camera icon when you are in this new mode and as you mouse over different areas of the screen the screen capture target is highlighted for you.

And of course, there's more... Screen captures can be triggered from the command line (and therefore AppleScript, perl, etc.) using the new screencapture command found in /usr/sbin/usage: screencapture [Ken Bereskin's Radio Weblog]
