And then it was September
I took this shot of the last sunset of August on Saturday evening as Natalie and I were driving back toward home after a long day of driving and book research in Eastern Washington. The failing lenticular clouds that had been stacked like pancakes on the leeward side of the Cascade Mountains were highlighted in such bright pinks and purples that I had to pull off Interstate 90 and roll down the window for a photo.
We will stay home today and work, write some more of our upcoming book, Birding Washington, and try to relax to mark the beginning of my favorite season of fall. It will remain sunny and warm here in the Pacific Northwest for another month or two, but the season of scorching heat is almost past, and here in Western Washington the rains are supposed to fall tonight. After two parched months with rainfall of less than three-quarters of an inch, we need it. Bring on fall!
