Welcome back folder actions in AppleScript
Jaguar: Folder Actions are back and better than ever. - With the release of Jaguar, many users are pleased to see the return of Folder Actions to OS X. What's even better is that they now work on closed folders! It's also been rumored, and not yet confirmed, that they "should also work on *any* folder, including normally invisible Unix-y ones and your Desktop folder". [AppleScript Info]

Another day, another NetNewsWire Lite
NetNewsWire Lite 1.0b19. This release fixes bugs and adds features, including a dock menu enhancement: if you hold down the option key when choosing a headline from the dock menu, it will open in NetNewsWire instead of in your browser. (Jaguar only, unfortunately.) More changes are, of course, on the change notes page. [ranchero.com]

Windows folks just can't get it right
NY Times: "The iMac, a graceful piece of art whose astonishingly thin screen floats in air on a gleaming chrome elbow, sells well enough. But whenever a Windows PC maker tries something similar, buyers stay away in droves." [Scripting News]

Even the Character Palette is enhanced in Jaguar
Writing in his Radio Weblog, Apple's Ken Bereskin says:
For today's Jaguar new feature (this one could be 5 or 6 features by itself
but we don't count like that), there's the new Character Palette.
Be prepared to be blown away by something as 'simple' as a palette with glyphs
from your installed fonts. There is a ton of information in the Unicode spec,
and this feature exposes as much of that info as you want. [Ken Bereskin's Radio Weblog]

Instant outlining returns to MNJ
If you use the Radio software from Userland, you can once again subscribe to my Instant Outliner by clicking on the coffee mug in the right hand column of this page. This is a feature in flux and still being perfected by the folks at Userland, but it is a move in the direction of allowing those who use Radio software to do more of their work in the built-in outliner.
Now I wonder when the Weblog outliner that Dave Winer had talked about in the past will arrive? I am sure it will be live as soon as Dave returns to software development!

An example why Jaguar will be required
Notes from the AppleScript Info site about an update to the shareware application HotApp illustrates why upgrading to Jaguar or Mac OS X 10.2 will soon be a requirement rather than an option:
HotApp 1.5.1. - HotApp is a utility that lets users control various elements of Mac OS X directly from the keyboard, including the ability to trigger an AppleScript application with a key combination. Version 1.5.5 is compatible with, and requires, OS X 10.2. [AppleScript Info]
I added the emphasis on the fact that the program requires Jaguar at the end of the description. Going forward, if you want to keep using the newest versions of software in the near future you are going to need to plunk down $129 for a copy of Jaguar.
