The need for speed not satisfied
Speed-Crazed Mac Fans Unfulfilled. Where is the long-lusted-after, next-gen Macintosh with a mach-speed CPU? Nowhere to be found at the Macworld Expo, that's for sure. Michelle Delio reports from New York. [Wired News]

This story about the lack of CPU speed in current Apple offerings compared to the rest of the computing world is definitely the growing issue coming out of Macworld Expo. Apple not only continues to fall behind, but it keeps working on adding enhancements to Mac OS X that may or may not make the system run faster on the current batch of G4 processors. The combination of an OS that drags on all but the fastest and most RAM-loaded systems in conjunction with processors that are way behind the competition in the MHz numbers will make it harder in the future to keep winning new Windows converts.

Of course, all that most people here about OS X is the positives and the lack of responsiveness of the operating system is something you discover after you have bought into the Apple way and you start using the operating system. At that point, they've got you... 7:53:30 AM comment

Something weird happened here
I noticed last night that although I am sure I posted some news on Thursday, it no longer appears on the Mac Net Journal page. Clearly, something went haywire with my Radio 8 installation to cause the posts to go missing, but I sure can't find the source of the problems.

Anyway, posts over this weekend will be sparse until I return Sunday from another bird book research trip. Have a great weekend! 7:41:28 AM comment
