Dvorak resorts to personal insults
John C Dvorak on Switching. John C Dvorak is paid to make controversal statements. And this time he's made a big one. In fact, I think he's gone over the line. In his latest PCMag editorial he takes random personal potshots at the people in Apple's Switch campaign. [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service]
I have to admit that tonight is the first time I am watching the "Switch" ads, since I haven't had the time to watch TV much in the last few weeks. I do think Apple is off the mark with this new ad campaign, but I sure wouldn't make personal attacks on the folks who are in the ads. Dvorak is simply a piece of work...

Documenting a switch from Windows to Mac
I've Switched from Windows, Now What?. It's one thing to switch from Windows to Mac OS X in your spare time; it's another to do it on the job ... especially when you're a full-time Web producer. Here's the first installment by Terrie Miller who's documenting her switch to Mac OS X. No safety net required. [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service]
I offer the link to this story because of some of the useful keyboard navigation and shortcuts information that can come in handy for long time OS X users as well as newcomers.

From Mac to Windows and back
Back to Mac. Like so many folks who had to leave their Macs behind as they moved into the business world, Alan Graham found himself with three desktop PCs and a Toshiba laptop. They have since passed through eBay, and now Alan is a columnist for the Mac DevCenter. Here's how a Mac user got trapped in Windows, and escaped. [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service]

AppleScript update is starting to worry me
Still no problems with my machine after updating to AppleScript 1.83 yesterday, but if the following post is any indication, I would advise against doing the update until the apparent problems are ironed out.
Writing on the Forwarding Address: OS X site, Cory Doctorow says:
Argh! I just installed the Applescript 1.83 update ....
Argh! I just installed the Applescript 1.83 update through Software Updater on my iBook Dual USB 600, and now my machine won't boot -- it gets all the way to starting to load the Finder, puts up a blue screen and a spinning beach-ball and just spins and spins and spins. I'm on the phone with Apple Support now. Pray for me. [Forwarding Address: OS X]

MacFixIt: AppleScript 1.8.3 and crashes on install. - MacFixIt is reporting various problems regarding yesterday's release of AppleScript v1.8.3. [AppleScript Info]
Odd...I haven't seen any problems at all after doing three system updates yesterday - the networking and Airport updates release last Friday as well as the AppleScript update offered yesterday. Fingers crossed.

TidBITS reviews URL Manager Pro
Matt Neuberg tips his hat to the URL manager and bookmark tool in Tools We Use: URL Manager Pro. As a long-time URL Manager Pro user myself, I have to agree with the article. It is a great tool if you have to manage numerous bookmarks and want to access them from a number of different Web browsers...

Another article looking at OS X software
The kuro5hin Web site takes a look at OS X software in: Third-Party Alternatives and Some Software For Mac OS X. Although many widely-used programs have been ported to Mac OS X, some haven't, and some that have been ported are ported poorly. In this article, I'll be taking a look at some third-party alternatives to popular software, and some official software too. I'll be looking at communication, web browsing, and file sharing.
