How do you feel about the move to OS X?
Derrick Story talks about how long-time Mac users feel about the move to OS X in The Mac Tradition.
Story's article combined with Adam Engst writing about making the move to OS X in TidBITS yesterday makes me wonder: How many Mac Net Journal readers are still waiting to make the move to OS X? Send me your response through the Comments link..

Thumbs up, Graffiti down?
PDABuzz asks if Handspring to opt for keyboards over Graffiti?. It appears from recent public comments that Handspring is convinced that customers want thumb keyboards rather than Graffiti areas for text input on PDAs.
I must be in the minority here. I would prefer Graffiti over thumb boards, and what I would like most is full-on handwriting recognition. Remember the Newton? Remember how many years ago that the Newton had somewhat dodgey handwriting recognition? Surely, handwriting recognition has advanced in the last 8 years, right?

Pssst...wanna access an iPod with Windows?
MacSlash notes that DataViz Lets Windows Users Access iPods. The software lets Windows users mount the iPod on their machines, but it does not serve as a complete solution for managing MP3s on the iPod with a Windows machine. Still, this may be useful for folks in a cross-platform situation...

Microsoft says IE development continues
MacCentral notes that Microsoft's Mac Business Unit claims that Internet Explorer development ongoing.
Whew...what a relief that is. Seriously, as soon as another Web browser can handle some of the crappy Web code out there as graciously as IE 5.1.4, which hasn't been updated in ages, then it will have a corner on the OS X browser market. If it wasn't for my work with Lycos, I would remove IE from my machine altogether. Both OmniWeb and Mozilla are faster to render pages. While other companies show that they are innovating and updating their browsers for OS X, Microsoft hasn't made any innovations recently. Maybe they are trying to figure out how to copy the tabbed windows features of Mozilla...

For folks interested in my photos
If you like the small photos I have been posting now and then on Mac Net Journal, you may want to take a look at my other Web site, The Equinox Project. I just caught up this morning with my entries on that site, and it includes photos that aren't offered here on MNJ. In fact, I have been wondering if the inclusion of photos on this site are something that people like, or if they are a hindrance since they take a little time to download? If you have comments, please use the Comment link...

Engst has written some great articles about backup strategies in past issues of TidBITS, and at the end of this review he sums it up with: "Mac users without a coherent OS X backup strategy should also seriously consider Retrospect Backup 5.0."
