Are you a Free Agent?
Free Agent Nation. Brent Simmons notes that he recently read the book Free Agent Nation (which has a website).
"It’s about people like me: free agents, consultants, writers, independent developers, home office folks.
If you’re a free agent or thinking about becoming one I recommend this book to you. It was fun to read—inspiring, even. And it opened my eyes to the shape and implications of the free agency trend." [inessential.com]
I should check out this site as well...I've been a free agent since 1994...

KDE on OS X?
It looks like the Fink team has brought KDE to Mac OS X, according to a piece on MacCentral. But what I wonder is what application this port will have? KDE and the other Linux graphical front ends look cool, but so far combined they have not been able to do for Unix what OS X has done in a little over a year. It seems like a waste of energy to spend so much time getting the old Unix stuff to work on the new OS X. Instead it is time to extend OS X's capabilities and create something new.
Just my thoughts from the peanut gallery...

What happens when you put hundreds of geeks on a ship?
To find out, check out David Pogue's article about the MacMania cruise underway now in Alaska: Geeks in Alaska.
And you thought grizzlies were scary...(just kidding...if I would have had the funds and the time, this cruise would have been a lot of fun).

MacSpeedZone tests OS X speed on various Macs
The MacSpeedZone site offers a series of tests with 12 currently shipping and recently phased out Macs to see how quickly they run doing a variety of tests under OS X. There are some interesting numbers in the ongoing report, but it is hard to draw any real conclusions from the numbers other than a newer machine with a faster processor will run OS X faster...
