Bring on the World Cup
Get your World Cup scorecard!. Everything you need to know about the players and teams. [Salon.com]
OK...it has nothing to do with OS X or the Mac, but someone has to point out that the most popular sport in the world is about to kick off its biggest competition. As a former newspaper sports editor, I have to admit that I will try to catch some of the World Cup on TV...I haven't really investigated where and when the games will be shown though...

I'm confused...
I am not sure why I see a link to my site on Daypop today. I am getting quite a few hits, it appears from my rankings on Radio, but I haven't written anything particularly controversial. Maybe the answer will come to me...
Update: OK...after spending some time looking at those Web sites that are referring to MNJ, I came up with an answer to the growing numbers of links - simply put, I pointed to Jon Udell's article about new aggregators yesterday. Here is how the hoarfrost site puts it:
Linking as a method of aquiring readers
Ever since I linked to Jon's aggregators story yesterday I have gotten a handful of referrals from daypop. Apparently it has me ranked as number 3 if you search for the link to his story. I don't expect that the people who came here had much use for my comments, but I learned something interesting. Maybe links will be repaid with hits. Then again maybe it's just Jon looking for comments on his article =)

Following up on her conversation about news aggregators, Jenny Levine posts on The Shifted Librarian this morning with a question that is critical for businesses that want to make money with content on the Internet:
Would you rather have someone visit your site or read your content? It depends on your mission and goals, although any site interested in disseminating content will need to shift to be available in aggregators.
In my case, I love that people can read MNJ through a news aggregator, but doing so makes it less likely that readers will stop by the site and view the whole content, that they will click the link to donate and help support the site, or that they will choose to follow a link to an advertiser and purchase something that will help support the site.

A great reader tip about encryption
Michael McCracken reminded me in response to my short story announcing SubRosa's encyrption suite yesterday that you can use Disk Copy under OS X to encrypt files without the need of a third-party solution:
"Hi - just thought I'd point to one $free resource for Mac OS X file encryption: Disk Copy. You can encrypt disk copy images with AES-128 (probably good enough for anything you're not hiding from the government) Here's a link to Ken Bereskin's weblog that explains this.
Thanks for the reminder about this tip, Michael!
