OmniWeb bumped to version 4.1 sneaky peek 90
OmniWeb 4.1sp90 (Updated 5/28/02) - The Omni Group hopes it has squashed the last of the table rendering problems with this release. Check the release notes to see if they addressed a problem you have been seeing with the recent builds of the popular browser...
Update: Expect a new version very soon, since users are reporting a bug that has already been internally fixed for the next release that causes the browser to work very slowly with 4.1sp90...

An interesting radio show on the Internet
Right now I am listening to a Talk of the Nation show on NPR that is an interesting look back on the emergence of the Net with author James Gleick, examining the way it has become so integrated with our lives and other topics like online communities. There is no mention of Weblogs or specific sites at the moment, but this may be an interesting show for folks to listen to it in archive form from the NPR.org Web site, or if you want to hear it live on KUOW radio, check their streaming audio link.
Update: For those interested in the show, the archive is already online, but it is in Realplayer format, so there is no way to listen to the archive under OS X without running Realplayer in Classic. Grrrrrrr...

O'Reilly unveils Mac OS X Conference info
Calls for participation and proposals for presentations at the O'Reilly Mac OS X Conference in Santa Clara are online today. Proposals for the Sept. 30-Oct. 3 conference are due by June 14. Why mention this on Mac Net Journal? This is a conference for OS X power users and wanna-be OS X power users, as well as programmers. It could be a great networking as well as a learning opportunity for some MNJ readers.

Consider the source
MacCentral posts a story this morning about Mac virus susceptibility questioned, but the most interesting part of the story is that it is built around a single source, someone from Symantec who has a vested interest in selling anti-virus software and making it sound like the Mac is as bad for computer viruses as Windows.
Note that the source points out macro viruses as some of the most prevalent for the Mac. There is an easy solution for that one: Don't use Microsoft Office or other Microsoft products and you vastly reduce your chances of ever getting a virus on the Mac.
I have been using Macs since 1987 and in that time, the only virus I have been bothered by was one in the mid-1990s that was spread through CDs when QuickTime was set to auto-launch on CD insertion. Mac users need to be alert to the threat of viruses, especially under OS X where our vulnerability is increased due to the fact that we are running Unix under the hood, but there is no need to go on crying that the sky is falling. Unless of course you are trying to sell more anti-virus software...
