MSN Messenger users beware....again
MSN Messenger Vulnerable to Hackers. SEATTLE (AP) -- Users of the latest versions of Microsoft's popular MSN Messenger program are vulnerable to computer hackers, the company warned on Wednesday. By The Associated Press. [New York Times: Technology]
It doesn't appear that this will affect the OS X version of MSN Messenger, but nothing specific is mentioned in the article. Best bet: Hold off using MSN until this shakes out...

Will Jaguar be a free upgrade for current OS X users?
Now that the features of the upcoming update to OS X codenamed Jaguar are starting to sink in with current OS X users, many people on mailing lists are starting to ask the money question: Will Jaguar be a free upgrade for current OS X users?
At this point, there is no solid information on this question. But if the past is any indication, the update is sure to carry a cost. It may be as small as $20 for a CD containing the installer files, or it could be a full $130 upgrade like the initial CD containing the first release of OS X. I doubt that Apple has decided what it is doing with the pricing of Jaguar just yet, which may explain why there is no mention from Apple what the version number of the Jaguar upgrade will be. My bet: If Jaguar is named OS X 10.2 it will be a $20 upgrade. If Jaguar is labeled OS X 10.5, expect to fork out around $100.
What do you think? Do the features in Jaguar measure up to a full $100 upgrade price? Offer your comments with the Comment link...

My upgrade to iPhoto 1.1.1 went well
I converted to the newest version of iPhoto this morning and had no problems in the process. But the upgrade is a bit scary when you first open iPhoto after the update and it tells you it needs to convert your photo database to a new format...
My tips for this upgrade: back up, follow the instructions in the ReadMe file, take a break from your computer while the update is loading (to avoid crashing your computer or something in the middle of the update), and then back up again after you finish the update.

TidBITS offers a brief look at iPhoto 1.1.1
iPhoto 1.1.1 Extends Photo Management [TidBITS]
TidBITS notes one of the main reasons that you should back up your image files before making the upgrade to iPhoto 1.1.1 - this 25.2 megabyte update changes the photo database format, and it is not backwards compatible with iPhoto 1.0. Better to be safe than sorry...

New iPhoto 1.1.1 finally makes an appearance
Apple is offering the now-you-see-it, now-you-don't update to iPhoto that had people scrambling to unauthorized FTP servers for a sneak peak last week. The new version offers enhanced editing capabilities, with brightness and contrast adjustments, and it also offers added capabilities that integrate iPhoto with the rest of OS X:
- An easy way to place an image from iPhoto into Mail
- An easy way to make an iPhoto image your new desktop background
- An easy way to make an iPhoto folder the set of images used by the screen saver
For more information about iPhoto 1.1.1 or to download the program, check Apple's iPhoto page. And as I mentioned last week when the leaked version of this software hit the Net, be sure to back up your image files before installing the update...
