Which Weblog tool to use?
The Weblog Tool Roundup. Webmonkey: “I’ve been running a personal website for about six years now. You should see the ladies’ faces light up when I casually drop that little nugget at a kegger or outside the dressing rooms at Old Navy. Their voices get husky, they twist their frosted curls around suggestive fingers, jot their numbers on my bare chest just in case I need someone to do some ‘freelance QA work,’ you know how it is.” [ranchero.com] 1:54:10 PM comment

Update to iView MediaPro coincides with iPhoto "phantom" update

The iPhoto update that wasn't
Yesterday morning all the buzz was about the stealthy release of iPhoto 1.1. But take a look around the Web so far today and you would never know that many sites were once pointing to the updater for iPhoto. Versiontracker removed its link yesterday and Apple never did officially add a link to the updater.

So, the question is, what happened? Was this release supposed to be held off until Monday, to coincide with the opening of the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference? Or were there serious problems with the update that kept it from wide release?

I will keep an eye on the software update sites and on Apple's iPhoto page for the official release of this software, but the only good advice at this point is to hold off on updating to iPhoto 1.1 until Apple officially releases it. Better safe than sorry when you stand to lose either your photo collection or your entire OS X installation... 10:24:21 AM comment

New printers take digital photos to a new level

Do the new PowerBook G4's video improvements outweigh compromises?
MacCentral's readers are split in their responses to this article: A look at the PowerBook G4's new graphics hardware. The article details the new graphics capabilities with very little mention of the trade offs - the lack of an IR port on the Titanium PowerBook G4 and that the addition of a DVI port rather than a VGA port on the new machine forces users to not only carry an adapter if you want to connect to a VGA adapter, but also to buy another adapter if they want to connect to a new Apple LCD that uses Apple's proprietary ADC port.

The feedback to this MacCentral article is low-key compared to comments I have read on the PowerList, an e-mail list connected to O'Grady's PowerPage Web site. It appears some folks are pretty excited about the new PowerBook's features, but a lot of people are concerned about the inconvenience and tradeoffs in this new model... 9:13:14 AM comment
