Radeon drivers updated
New Radeon Drivers for Mac OS X. MacNN reports that the March 2002 ATI Retail Update is now available. This seems to solve the artifacting problem that plagued a recent ROM update. I installed it on my Power Macintosh 9500 (running Mac OS X with the XPostFacto extensions), and it is working fine so far. [Meerkat: An Open Wire Service]

Radio Poster 1.0: Another way to post to a Radio-based site
Will Leshner's new OS X freeware, Radio Poster 1.0, is a small RealBasic application that serves as a front end for composing posts for a Radio Weblog. Use of the application looks pretty straightforward, thanks to the detailed documentation provided by Leshner. It appears that the biggest advantage of this program is the ability to save drafts of a particular post before sending to the live Radio site.

Sirius Trouble for Wi-Fi?. With the fast adoption of Wi-Fi networking, satellite radio stations are worried about

Apple updated Remote Desktop
MacNN notes that Apple Remote Desktop 1.0.1 has been released. The story itself is interesting, but check out the reader responses. As expected, there are some people disgruntled that Apple has released this program, and while the comments on this MacNN story can only be taken for what they are worth, it is interesting to see what a few vocal folks are thinking...

An HTML and layout mystery
I am fairly happy with the direction my slimmed down redesign of Mac Net Journal is taking, but I have run into a mystery. The page as it stands now renders as I expect it would in IE 5.1.2 and on Mozilla, but the banner that shows the MNJ graphic and the Mac Net Journal name across the top of the page doesn't show up at the top of the page in OmniWeb 4.1b2. If there are any coding wizards out there who would be willing to look at my HTML, I would love to understand why OmniWeb is not rendering this page the same way that IE and Mozilla do...

A win for book buyers' rights
Bookstore Cannot Be Forced to Divulge Buyers, Court Says. A bookstore does not have to turn over customer sales records to help police determine who bought a book on how to make illegal drugs, the Colorado Supreme Court ruled on Monday. By The New York Times. [New York Times: Books]
This may seem like a minor issue to some people, but the right to guard exactly what you read is just as important as the right to free speech. We should all be able to read what we want to read, without worries that some government is going to look over our shoulders and judge or jail us for reading.

The world grows much older
U.N. Says Elderly Will Soon Outnumber Young for First Time. A million people now turn 60 every month, a demographic revolution that will mean older people will outnumber the young for the first time in history. By Emma Daly. [New York Times: International]
This is not a Mac issue, but it can tie in with software development and business issues in general. It pays these days to remember that a majority of the world's population is growing old, and serving that aging population will benefit everyone. There is no reason that the health care industry should be the only industry to benefit from targeting the aging population.

eWeek sees Mac programming on the rise
Ranchero today points to an eWeek story: Hot Java Revives Mac Programming. eWeek: “After years of being infamously unfriendly to casual programmers, the Macintosh has suddenly become the machine of choice for out-of-the-box programmability—with tools that not only generate great-looking Macintosh applications but that also generate them in Java so you can take them anywhere.” [ranchero.com]
