While checking out the Hot News section on Apple's Web site, I found it interesting that mention of OS X was nowhere to be found in the interesting article about Eco-Challenge and Digital Photography. The reasons are many: Photoshop isn't yet available for OS X, Photo Mechanic doesn't currently run under OS X and many of the peripherals that the photo team in the feature used may be dicey while running under OS X. This is a great illustration of how great the Mac was before OS X, and just how far we have to go before real digital photo and graphics pros can make the full-time switch to OS X...

Beware: Yesterday's Java update from Apple has broken my ability to use Internet Explorer 5.13 for OS X with some Java Web sites. For my work I have to use the Java chat client for the Lycos Communities, and since running the updater I cannot access the Java chat client. It appears to load, but them locks up with a spinning colored disk and the program will only respond to a force quit.
This is a major problem for me and my work, and it will force me to run Classic more often to run IE under Classic, which retains the ability to use the Lycos Java chat client. And, as I have mentioned in previous articles, IE was the only current OS X browser that offered robust Java support that would allow me to do my work with Lycos while solely using OS X. This is yet another sign that Apple needs to work with third-party developers to get more robust Web browsers running under OS X. When an update breaks a program like IE, and IE is the only viable choice for accessing mant Web sites, then this is a major problem not just for end users but for Apple and the health of OS X...

Power On posts Mac OS X-Palm beta conduits [MacCentral] - The release of this conduit adds to the list of condiuts available for Palm computers synching with OS X. Now if only Palm Desktop worked as advertised...
On a Palm related note, I read a few posts from OS X users that they couldn't access their user information when they first opened the Palm Desktop beta after upgrading to OS X 10.1.3. Coincidentally, I ran into the same problem, which forced me to create a new Palm user file and then merge my old data back into the new user file. No doubt about it, it is way past time for Palm to create a Desktop organizer component that actually works under OS X.
