Many Mac news sites are trying to figure out how to make ends meet as services for their readers. Some, like MacFixIt, have chosen to restrict access to content, offering a higher-level of access for those willing to pay to look at their archives, and many others are doing a combination of advertising support and soliciting readers for donations.
Dan Knight at LowEndMac offers his take on making his site pay for itself in a column today, and he references other columns on the topic while making the argument for his approach - a combination of advertising and reader support. As I start to spend more time working on Mac Net Journal I am contemplating these issues too. I haven't made any final decisions yet...Still digging.

What Is The Best UPS For Mac OS X? [MacSlash: A daily dose of Macintosh News and Discussion] - This should be interesting reading for those working in offices that have either already switched to OS X or that are considering making the move to OS X. I will be reading with interest, since my office machines are not curretly on a UPS.
This also gets me to thinking: For those who do most of their work on laptops, who thinks that UPSes are less critical for you?

Olympics Site Not Medal-Worthy. Interface design guru Jakob Nielsen says the official Salt Lake website has a chilling effect on users. Like many 'capitulating' sites in need of revenue, it places ad dollars ahead of sound design. Farhad Manjoo reports from San Francisco. [Wired News] - This is also filed in my Winter Olympic category that I am maintaining throughout the games in Utah
