A follow up on yesterday's notes about Fire and Adium - both third party instant messenging clients that work with AOL Instant Messenger protocols, were no longer working with AIM. Late last night I noticed that my program of choice, Fire, was working with AIM once again. And this morning a Mac Net Journal reader pointed out that Adium is working now as well.

The scoop on the reason for the outage appears to be a problem with an AOL server that both of these third-party programs use to access AIM users.

I should also note that Adium 1.5b6 has been released, and the changes in this version include a move to a alternate AIM server. We will see if this means Adium can escape the server problems that plagued it yesterday... 9:09:33 AM comment
