Despite my problems tonight with Radio, this has been an interesting day for Mac Net Journal. According to my referrer logs, slightly more traffic has made it here from the link on Macsurfer than from Dave Winer's mention of the site on Scripting News...but there is still time left in the day for those two to battle it out! Meanwhile, I hope those of you who found Mac Net Journal for the first time today will venture back to see what is up on a daily basis!
Once I get my problem with upstreaming Stories in Radio all figured out, there will be a couple of new stories to read here!
Still digging...
UPDATE: I figured out the source of my problem with upstreaming Stories tonight. Apparently the titles of two of the Stories I wanted to post were too long, and rather than getting some kind of error message that made sense, I was led down the path of believing that something had gone sour with my database. I simply reposted my Stories with shorter titles and now they work!

In case someone who is an expert with Radio 8.0.2 reads this here rather than in the discussion group, here is my current Radio problem in a nutshell:
I successfully upstreamed a story yesterday about "The state of OS X Web browsers," but every time I try to upstream an additional story I keep getting odd error messages like these from my Event Log:
Upstream Can't upstream because "Can't find a sub-table named "5326"." 4:52:29 PM 1.001
Upstream Can't upstream because "Can't find a sub-table named "4418"."
I tried digging around in my user database to see what is amiss, and I found that the two Stories I had tried to upstream were not assigned .html names for some reason. And when I try to edit them and upstream again I get the error messages and Radio seems to freeze on trying to close the FTP connection with my Web server.
I can upload regular news items to my site through Radio with no problem. If you have any tips to help clear up the situation, drop me an e-mail.

Just when I thought I was getting the hang of Radio 8.0.2, I have hit a snag. For some reason, after successfully upstreaming one Story entry to my Web site, I cannot upstream any additional stories. I have futzed around with this for long enough...it's time to pop over to the Discussion group at radio.userland.com...

Webcams On OS X? [MacSlash] - This is an interesting thread, if, like me, you consider running a Webcam on your Mac. I run a Webcam on my old Power Computing desktop machine now and then under OS 8.x, but I have not spent any time contemplating a Webcam under OS X...

An update to my OS X Web browser round up: I downloaded and tested the Java plug-in for Netscape and Mozilla, and neither of them will work with the Java chat client or any other Java on the site I need to access for work, the Lycos Communities.
My conclusion stands: IE 5.13 for OS X is still the most robust overall browser under OS X 10.1.2, followed closely by OmniWeb...

OmniWeb has been updated to 4.1b35. If you are running the 4.1 beta version of the browser, just go to the OmniWeb pull down menu and select "Check for updates..." to grab the new version...

On the e-mail client front, I updated Natalie's laptop to the latest Eudora for OS X beta version, 5.1b20, yesterday and she actually got through the night without a crash. It looks like they are making Eudora much more stable. To bad they won't do something about the horrible look of the program. It works like a charm and looks like 1995...at least on the Mac version. Windows, of course, has the three-paned interface that became the standard years ago...

Ken Bereskin, an exec at Apple, is using his weblog to keep us informed on developments at his company. This is a very good use of the medium. [Scripting News]

I see from my referrer logs that many folks from the Macsurfer Web site are visiting Mac Net Journal today. Welcome!

A Mac Net Journal reader asks a question about Mac Web browsers that allow use of the WYSIWYG editing tools under Radio 8.0.2 today, and I offered the answer below. I would be happy to hear if I am missing something here:
None of the browsers I have used under OS X will bring up the WYSIWYG editing in Radio 8.0 - not even IE, which has the richest Java support of them all. This may be a limitation of the Java capabilities in OS X, or it could be that the way those tools are implemented in Radio will only work with the Microsoft Java engine...I am not sure which.
The only browser option that may work with the Java plug-in on either Netscape or Mozilla.

Welcome to those visiting Mac Net Journal for the first time as a result of Dave Winer pointing here from Scripting News. I hope you find the site useful! If you have any comments, drop me an e-mail.
